Sounds of Deep Ellum:
Released July 2023
Sounds of Deep Ellum is an initiative from Deep Ellum 100, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving what is arguably one of the most culturally significant and oldest neighborhoods of Dallas, TX.
Deep Ellum is 150 years old this 2023 and has always had a vibrant area music and art scene. Some of the most influential early jazz and blues musicians called Deep Ellum home and ever since, everyone from Nirvana, to Wu-Tang have the iconic venues there. The project aims to shine a light on the importance of the local music/art scene. A concert was held at Trees Dallas venue in Deep Ellum, where ten of the most talented bands and musicians on rise were recorded live for an album pressed on vinyl locally in Dallas. The album released in record stores July, 2023.
A record release concert and party will follow on July 29th in Dallas’ House of Blues venue, with an after party at The Foundation Room.
Deep Ellum 100’s founder, Gianna Madrini, brought in Alfredo (artist and resident of Deep Ellum) to help steer the creative direction of the project along with friend/colleague, Senior Art Director, Jonatan Zepeda. Together, they produced the promotional materials for the initiative/album.
The vinyl album cover art is a photo by Alfredo Piña of the exit doors to the famous Curtain Club, which closed in 2019 after 20 years.
